Adelaide is a city in southern Australia, the capital and main city of the state of South Australia. Situated on the Torrens River near the Gulf Saint Vincent, Adelaide is a modern city of wide streets, imposing squares, and many parks. Industrial activity includes electronic and motor-vehicle equipment, machinery, chemicals, textiles, and plastic goods. Port Adelaide provides shipping facilities nearby.
Points of interest in Adelaide include the Adelaide Festival Centre, this being the site of a biennial arts festival, the Botanic Gardens, the Natural History Museum, the National Gallery of South Australia.
